| Biography: | |
| In her role as Director of the University of Alberta Press (appointed 2001 May) Ms Cameron is responsible for providing strategic leadership, motivation and overall direction to the Press and for the management of its day-to-day activities. Important aspects of the position include acquiring excellent scholarly titles; ensuring high standards of production; developing and executing dynamic marketing/sales strategies; and exploring joint publishing ventures, partnerships and other innovative publishing projects that are consistent with the mandate and vision of the Press. She brings to the position a wealth of experience and knowledge in both the academic and business communities. Previous positions include Manager of Information Systems (1998-2001) for The Gleaner Company Limited – the oldest English-language newspaper in the Caribbean. (The Gleaner has been publishing since 1834.) Prior to her work at the Gleaner she was founding Director of The University of the West Indies Press in Kingston Jamaica from 1992 through 1997. She began her career in publishing at the University of Calgary where she rose from the position of Operations Manager to Director during her tenure with the University of Calgary Press. Throughout her career she has held many elected and appointed positions with various provincial and national publishing organizations including the Book Publishers Association of Alberta (BPAA), the Association of Canadian Publishers (ACP), the Association of Canadian University Presses (ACUP), the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA), the Public Lending Right Commission (PLRC) and the Canadian Magazine Publishers Association (CMPA). She is currently the Vice President of the Association of Canadian Publishers (ACP) and the ACUP representative to the Association for the Export of Canadian Books (AECB). She is a published author with over 20 articles published and editor of the recently (2000) published The Story of the Gleaner: Memoirs and Reminiscences. In addition she has successfully undertaken and completed a number of consultancies in the field of publishing, and systems and procedures. She makes her home in Edmonton where she enjoys the variety of cultural activities available including live blues music, live theatre and literary events. An avid reader of non fiction her favourite genre is travel writing. |  | |
